Faith Humphries is another of Maitland's hardworking volunteers. For the past six years the Thornton woman has given her time to Maitland TLC Volunteers, providing respite and companionship to people facing life-limiting illnesses and their carers. Ms Humphries became a volunteer after her best friend died of breast cancer. "I used to go with her to chemotherapy and I saw so many people there who were alone", she said. Ms Humphries now volunteers in Maitland Hospital's pediatric and medical wards and also provides care to patients in the community. "I enjoy working with people, you realise (their situation) is all part of life and they are at a stage where they really need someone," she said. "Volunteering is such a rewarding experience and not only with the clients but the organisation itself,ÊÊyou make such wonderful friends." |
